  • CONTROLS AND EMBEDDED ENGINEER

    Sopogy has immediate need for an individual with a strong, varied background in electronics and controls to support many facets of the organization, including product development, project design and site implementation. Knowledge of PLC controls and microcontroller development in C strongly desired. EE or equivalent work experience preferred. International travel may be required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Product Development
    ° Design, prototype, and manufacture custom electronics to support solar thermal collector fields
    ° Maintain existing solar tracking system
    · Microcontroller programming, QA and testing
    · Repair and rework failed components
    · Provide customer support via phone and email
    · On-site repair and upgrade support as required
    ° Research and develop next-generation solar tracking system
    · Focus on Cost Reduction, Reliability, and Scalability
    · PLC integration and programming as needed
    · Create and document support and maintenance procedures
    ° Order, receive and inventory hardware
    · Implement product lifecycle
    · Work with mechanical group to optimize parts assemblies
    · Refine implementation based on field experience

    • Project Design Support
    ° Create electrical drawings, plans and documentation to support solar thermal projects
    ° Provide electrical requirements to planners and customers
    ° High-voltage (power) and low-voltage (control and communication) electrical design experience a plus.

    • Control Systems Support
    ° Provide design guidance for plant automation components
    ° Specify requirements for control system hardware and software
    ° Provide programming support to integrate solar tracking into control systems as required

    • Travel as required to customer sites (domestic and international) for implementation and support.

    • Other duties as assigned


     

  • SOLIDWORKS MECHANICAL DESIGNER & DRAFTER

    Location: Honolulu, HI

    Starting Date: Immediately         

    Job Description: 
    The Design Engineer performs concept, design, analysis, and development of mechanical and structural products for high pressure fluid flow and precision machinery, including parts and components.  The engineer will be working in a team environment to produce drawings using GD&T standards, ASME Y14.5M-1994, as well as knowledge of design for manufacturing. Produce drawings accurately and consistently dimensioned in the manner prescribed by design and company standards. This includes primarily the use of SolidWorks (2008 or later), Microsoft Office EXCEL and Word (2007 or later).

    Knowledge of industry codes, code conforming components, raw materials, specialized bearings, connectors, and common manufacturing, fabrication, finishing, and assembly techniques used by solar industry.  Performs basic and advanced computer aided calculations to assure materials are sized properly to standards.  Will apply “Design for Manufacturing" guidelines to company standards in all design and drafting performed.  Will be required to produce project documentation such as assembly drawings, parts lists and File Management during design stage of projects.

     

    Working with the Product team:

    ·         Has overview of production schedule and engineering projects required completing the schedule.

    ·         Participates in planning of project requirements, plan and prioritize accordingly.

    ·         Supports occasional RFQ and vendor qualifaction meetings and ensures project scope is fully understood, advises of issues relevant to the overall project performance.

    ·         Prepares and completes drawings, parts lists and product specifications in accordance with the requirements of the production schedule and manufacturing data required.

    ·         Liaises with engineering personnel to ensure that all issues are considered.

    ·         Solves problems with regard to system level, process level, parts, and assemblies and corrects existing documentation.

     

    Product design and drafting:

    ·         Utilizes engineering and design software (Solid Works) to perform engineering and design tasks.

    ·         Ensures knowledge and use of current design and engineering concepts where applicable.

    ·         Designs product for manufacturability, quality, reliability, safety and cost control.

    ·         Analyzes research and test data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of the product.

    ·         Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.

    ·         Confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.

     

    Requirements

    ·         Technical Degree or relevant experience

    ·         Must be located on Oahu

    ·         Must have extensive working knowledge of SolidWorks (2008 or later), MS Excel (2007 or later), Word (2007 or later)
